Jenny Willis hit an RBI single in the sixth and Reba DePriest pitched a complete-game shutout as the tenth-ranked Coyotes beat No. 11 Ironwood 2-1 in the loser’s brackets of the double-elimination tournament.
Willis lined a single with runners and second and third to break the scoreless tie and Lisa Gomez followed with an RBI single of her own to give the Coyotes the 2-0 advantage.
DePriest allowed just four hits and struck out 11 batters, her second straight complete-game with 10 or more strikeouts.
Skyline (19-10), who’s back-to-back tournament victories were the first two state tournament wins in school history, again extended its school single-season win record, previously 13. The Coyotes will next try to avenge two regular season losses against Pima Region rival Pinnacle.
